Vievska Folk Group
About the contractor

The Vievo folk band takes its name from the village of Vievo, Smolyan municipality, birthplace of the founder and leader of the formation Emil Uzunski. Other members of the group originate from there, from the heart of the Rhodope Mountains. The expanses, the spirit, the beauty and the soul of the mountains are integrated in the music and songs of the orchestra, which has established itself as the classiest for the performance of Rhodope music. Folk music lovers are thrilled by the virtuoso performances of the band's long-time soloist Veselin Dzhigov, by the Rhodope ring in the voices of soloists Nelly Uzunska, Dimitriya Nikolova and Stefan Merkov.

The orchestra was founded in 1977 and has 30 albums in its collection. In 40 years of a bright presence on the music scene, the Viets have also created dozens of original songs. The skillful musicians won prizes in the 1987 Wedding Band Overplaying in Kyustendil and in 1988 in Stambolovo. They have participated in international festivals in Austria, Czech Republic, Russia, Greece and Spain. A folk band from Vienna reinvents and recreates folk music as it was, as it is and as it will be. Their songs are a welcome guest on weekdays and holidays. Their art fills us with pride that we are Bulgarians and possess the untold wealth of golden Bulgarian folklore. Emil Uzunsky - accordion, leader, Todor Panayotov - clarinet, Manol Radev - saxophone, Rosen Eshpekov - bagpipe, Petar Hristev - keyboard, Zhivko Mihov - percussion and the three soloists. The group offers Rhodope, Macedonian, Thracian and Strandzha folklore. In their repertoire there is a place for both pop and urban folklore.
